The latest episode of Saturday Night Takeaway saw a guest left mortified when Ant McPartlin told him to ‘shut up’.

During the live variety programme, Ant, 48, grew frustrated when Matt Carnell repeatedly spoke out of turn during popular segment Ring My Bell.

In the segment, Ant and Dec hijack the Ring doorbells of two people in the audience and ask their neighbours to bring a random item to them, with the first household back winning half a grand.

On Saturday, households from Wrexham and Tividale respectively went head to head for the prize, while their neighbours watched anxiously in the audience.

When Wrexham were the first to come back with the requested item – a mop – Ant asked them for their name, but Matt quickly cut in with his.

Pointing at his image on the board, Ant harshly declared: ‘Not you, Tividale! You shut up, Tividale!’ To laughter from the audience – including Matt’s neighbour Vijay Patel.

Ant then asked Wrexham what number they lived at, and when they didn’t reply, Matt took the opportunity to give his address.

He received a ‘Matt! Shh!’ from Ant for the efforts, before the prize was finally awarded to Wrexham and their neighbour Angela Tenet.

In February, Ant and Dec revealed Takeaway is going on hiatus so they can focus more on family time, ahead of Ant welcoming his first child.

Ant is set to become a father in June as his wife Anne-Marie Corbett, 46, is pregnant. Anne-Marie has two children from her previous marriage.

Speaking to Fault Magazine, Ant said: ‘On a more personal level, part of the reason we’re pausing Takeaway is we need a break ourselves, and we need to spend some time with our family.

‘We’ve both got children that we need to spend time with for a little bit. We need time to think and, and time to step back and look at the bigger picture and just see where we are now.’

The pair will continue their exclusive working relationship with ITV, hosting hit shows including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Britain’s Got Talent and Limitless Win, all of which air across ITV1 and ITVX.
