The final moments of a British tourist in Thailand were seen on CCTV before he was found dead in his hotel room after collapsing from drinking and discharging himself from hospital.
Joshua Kershaw, 21, checked into Maxim’s Inn hotel in Sukhumvit 7/1 in Bangkok on January 12 at 9pm, before leaving for a night out.
He ended up in a bar, where an employee said he had been drinking and eating with a woman before falling off his chair and collapsing.
The witness said: ‘He ordered pizza, fried chicken, and beer for two people, and he ate very quickly, as if he were extremely hungry.
‘After a while, we thought he may have choked because he was eating too much and too fast.
‘He then fell off his chair and collapsed, losing consciousness.’
The 21-year-old was then taken to the hospital in an ambulance at 2.30am, before discharging himself and returning to the street to carry on drinking until 5.45am when he went to his room carrying two bottles of beer.
Josh returned to his hotel where staff saw him drinking a bottle of water at around 4.30am.

He played pool outside the hotel for another hour and the night shift staff said they made a note of letting him sleep in until the afternoon, as they had seen he had been in an ambulance.
A receptionist said: ‘He returned alone by taxi. I noticed gauze wrapped around his arm and hand, but it was not large — it looked like a blood draw or IV injection mark from the hospital.
‘He seemed slightly drunk. I asked if he was okay, and he said yes. He paid the taxi fare, smoked a cigarette, then bought bottled water outside. I also saw him drink another bottle and a half of beer. After that, he went back to his room. I finished my shift and did not hear anything more.’
He was found dead by a maid later that afternoon in his room. Officers attempted CPR before his body was taken away.
Joshua’s family – who launched a desperate search in the ensuing days and a GoFundMe page – only discovered he was dead almost 10 days after their last contact with him.
They were told of his death on Monday, January 21.
They said they did not know why it had taken the police from the Lumpini district station and the British Embassy in Bangkok so long to contact them.

The family say his cause of death is currently unknown.
Joshua’s aunt Jade Kershaw, 31, has said they cannot return his body home until an investigation into his death and a post-mortem have been completed.
Jade, from Wakefield, said: ‘He was a cheeky chap and so full of joy.
‘He just loved to travel. He would go on holiday, come back and work for a couple of months, and then head back out.
‘On the day he arrived, he called home and he was doing fine, talking to [mum] Jenny about his journey.
‘He then told her he was going to get some food, and then we hadn’t heard from him since.’
She went on to explain that the family set up a GoFundMe and were planning to travel to Thailand to look for Joshua after his mother became worried when he didn’t answer the phone.
Joshua’s mum said the family have been in contact with the international funeral directors to help bring his body home.
She says it is still currently unknown when Joshua will be returned to the UK.
Jade said the money from the GoFundMe will now go to towards bringing Joshua’s body back to the UK and his funeral cost.
