A man has sparked controversy after proposing to his girlfriend at her graduation ceremony – just moments before she received her degree.
Erin Boddice was preparing for her special moment; it was the day she would finally become a Primary Initial Teacher Education graduate from the University of Worcester, Henwick Grove, Worcester.
Unbeknownst to her, her partner of three years, Jacob Thomas, had planned to make the moment life changing in more ways than one – by getting down on one knee and asking for Erin’s hand in marriage.
While awaiting her degree at Worcester Cathedral, Erin received the shock of her life when Jacob popped the question. A delighted Erin blurted out ‘yes’ and said the moment was ‘perfect’.
Despite Erin’s elation, some X users have adamantly disagreed with Jacob’s timing and have accused him of ‘stealing her thunder’, while others say he made the day ‘about him’.

People have taken to X to berate a man for proposing to his girlfriend just moments before she was due to graduate from the University of Worcester (Pictured: The moment Jacob Thomas proposes to his girlfriend Erin Boddice at her graduation)
Erin fondly recalled: ‘We were in the garden of the cathedral, overlooking the river, having family photos on the steps just by the cathedral door.
‘Then Jacob got down on one knee and asked the question! I couldn’t believe it. I was very happy.
‘I can’t wait to show the children the photos and the ring when I get back to the school in the morning’.
Erin is already employed in a school and returned to work the day after her graduation and post a ‘small celebration’.
Erin’s fiancé, Jacob Thomas, finished his studies at Worcester two years ago and now works in the city.
Though it a blissful day for Erin, he refused to take all the credit, instead partly putting its success down to luck.
‘I had planned it so Erin’s dad could be on hand to take photos, I half planned the moment, but the other half was luck’ said Jacob.
Unfortunately many were unmoved by the magical moment and wasted no time in airing their thoughts on social media.

A delighted Erin blurted out ‘yes’ and said the proposal was ‘perfect’ – but some social users feel differently (The two pictured following Erin’s graduation from the University of Worcester)
One person commented: ‘Couldn’t just let her have her day? Had to make it about him!!!’
‘Textbook thunder stealing’ said another.
However, some users disagreed and rather offered Jacob a virtual pat on the back for his hard work.
One person said: ‘He made it MORE about her. She was having a great day and he just made it even better’.

Horrified women SLAM the idea of an unexpected public marriage proposal – but what do you think?

‘What a bitter outlook to have on a proposal that your only take-away is that he did it to make the day about him’ said another.
Another chimed in: ‘He did it because it was HER day and HER family were there to witness HER moment’.
‘Great to see one of our students have an even better day. She was over the moon!!’ said a staff member.
For Erin, the day couldn’t have been any better. She said: ‘Exactly, it was absolutely perfect.
‘Thank you so much. It’s everything I could’ve ever dreamed about, all of my family and friends there to see it’.
