  • Carrie Johnson wore a blue version of the £295 dress by Manimekala last year

Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty followed in Carrie Johnson’s footsteps to become Britain’s First Lady.

And now, it seems, the multi-millionaire is succeeding Ms Johnson when it comes to fashion.

Ms Murty, 42, appeared at the spousal programme at G20 in New Delhi today dressed in exactly the same frock as Ms Johnson wore last June for the same event in Germany – but in a different colour.

Ms Johnson, 34 – who passionately supports sustainable fashion – hired hers from clothing rental company mywardrobeHQ but it is not known if Ms Murty did the same.

It says that it specialises in joyful textiles and that it’s colourful designs are for those who want to ‘stand out.’

One fashion observer told MailOnline: ‘Either Akshata loves Carries style or nobody from her team noticed that her predecessor wore exactly the same dress a year ago’

During her time in Number 10 Ms Johnson became known for her fondness for hiring her clothes.

She even rented her wedding dress when she married former Prime Minister, now Daily Mail columnist Boris Johnson.

She also hired her entire wardrobe when she hosted the spousal programme in Cornwall when Mr Johnson hosted G7 at Caribs Bay.

Ms Murty, daughter of Indian billionaire Narayana Murthy, dressed up in channelled both her Indian roots with a traditional floor-length maxi skirt complemented with a crisp white shirt when she arrived in India for the occasion on Friday.
