An AI tool has predicted what stereotypical families look like in cities around the UK – and the results have left viewers divided.

Instagram account @reimagineuk has racked up almost 30,000 followers by posting short clips of people from all corners of society using artificial intelligence, with some curious to see how accurate the software is. 

The generator formed what it believes a typical household looks like in cities such as Nottingham, Brighton and Liverpool. It also included the counties of Surrey, Cornwall and Essex. 

The clip, which claims to show the ‘most stereotypical families’ from each region in the UK, has racked up 32,000 likes on the social media platform.  

The first area shown on the clip was Derby, which showed a mother, father, baby and three sons all dressed in sports attire – with one of the boys wearing a football top and another riding around on a bike in the background. 

Second was Cornwall; a stark contrast to Derby with a bright, beachy background featuring featuring a father, mother, two daughters dressed in vibrant summer clothing and a family dog with colourful camper vans and surf boards in the background.

Next up was Leicester, and the AI predicted that the stereotypical family consisted of a mother, father, a son and two daughters, along with a strong connection to extended family like grandparents.

The women in the household donned traditional Asian clothing with colourful patterns, with the grandmother wearing a hijab, a head scarf worn by Muslim ladies. 

The fourth area to be included was Essex; which showed a mother, father and son dressed up in designer brands and cruising around in their white Range Rover. 

The woman was wearing a full face of makeup with long blonde hair extensions sporting fake tan, black sandals and a tight nude mini dress. 

The man and his son were wearing similar ensembles, sporting dark denim jeans, a navy branded polo shirt and trainers. 

Instagram commenters seemed satisfied with this generalisation, with one writing: ‘Essex is so TRUE!!!’

Another said: ‘The Essex one was terrifying.’

The Instagram account then posted what AI thought a stereotypical Surrey family would look like – well-educated and affluent. 

It showed a father in a suit holding a leather briefcase, a mother wearing pearls around her neck and two well-dressed boys reading books in the doorway of a picturesque house full of ivy growing up the external walls.

The Instagram account then posted what AI thought a stereotypical Surrey family would look like – well-educated and affluent

Some users thought Nottingham’s example wasn’t accurate as they ‘seem too classy for this city’

Viewers had split opinions on the videos, with some saying they were accurate and others saying AI had got it completely wrong

A viewer said: ‘Surrey made me chuckle. So accurate.’ 

Artificial intelligence believes that Nottingham families are typically a mother, father and a son. 

However, some viewers believe that this prediction is inaccurate, with one writing: ‘Nottingham is not correct, they seem too classy for this city.’ 

The family are depicted as dressing elegantly with the mother wearing a khaki overcoat, a blouse, suit trousers and holding a coffee cup, whereas the father has a laptop case slung on his shoulder while holding a pile of books dressed in a blazer, shirt and jeans with Chelsea boots. 

The young boy is seen playing on his tablet device dressed in a navy jumper with a white shirt, jeans and black boots.

Next up was Liverpool which featured a brunette woman with a bouncy blow-dry and a full face of makeup donning a fur coat, skinny jeans and high heels.

The father was dressed in a matching tracksuit, seemingly representing a football team and the young boy was in a football kit, whereas the daughter was in a sparkly pink dress with leg warmers and trainers. 

One person wrote: ‘Essex, Leicester and Liverpool are so correct!’

Seaside city Brighton is known for being a bright, flamboyant place with a bustling creative scene full of artists and musicians. 

So it’s perhaps unsurprising that the front of the house in the AI-generated image has graffiti art and the father is dressed in a pattern cardigan, carrying a notebook. 

The mother is also blonde with glasses and wearing a quirky patterned dress with their son proudly holding up a painting that he created, whereas the daughter is sporting cropped leggings an oversized jumper and military boots.

‘Can confirm Brighton is spot on,’ another said. 

AI believes the stereotypical family for Belfast consists of a father dressed in a rugby shirt, two women and four children – two boys and two girls dressed in what appears to be a school uniform.

It is unclear what the relationship is between the trio – whether it is an aunt and cousins or perhaps a blended family with a stepmother and stepchildren.

‘AI has clearly never been to Portsmouth,’ one person quipped.

The two boys were dressed in t-shirts and shorts with trainers whereas the young girl wore a gingham frock with pink sandals. 

The clip racked up hundreds of comments, with many saying that AI had managed to get many of the stereotypes ‘spot on’.  

One wrote: ‘I think it’s mental how realistic AI is.’ 

Another penned: ‘Pretty bang on I would say.’ 

A third said: ‘AI knows too much,’ while a fourth commented: ‘I mean it’s pretty spot on to be fair.’
