A woman accused of having a ‘digital relationship’ with Robert F. Kennedy Jr had a string of relationships with powerful men as she rose to the top of journalism, her jilted fiancé has claimed.
Olivia Nuzzi, 32, a former journalist with New York Magazine, is said to have been involved in a scandalous ‘online relationship’ with Mr Kennedy, 71, which reportedly included the two writing explicit poetry to one another.
The allegations were revealed by Ms Nuzzi’s ex-fiancé Ryan Lizza, 51, in an explosive piece shared to his Substack on Saturday.
He has also accused her of cheating on him years earlier with former South Carolina Governor and 2020 presidential candidate Mark Sanford, 65.
Mr Lizza claimed he discovered Ms Nuzzi’s alleged relationship with Mr Sanford when a love note she wrote for him fell out of her bag.
He said the letter was written in 2020 – the same year the couple were writing a book about the presidential candidates together.
Mr Lizza wrote: ‘She [Ms Nuzzi] had crossed a journalistic red line.
‘How could we write a book about the presidential campaign if Olivia had a sexual relationship with one of the candidates?’

Meanwhile, it has also been alleged that Ms Nuzzi previously had a relationship with former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann before she dated her ex-fiancé.
According to Mr Lizza, the 66-year-old ‘paid for her to attend college, outfitted her in Tom Ford and Hervé Léger dresses and some $15,000 worth of Cartier jewellery’.
Mr Lizza claimed Mr Olbermann also paid for Ms Nuzzi’s rent and ‘furnished her apartment in a doorman building’ in Manhattan’s swanky West Village.
He said: ‘While Keith, who was 34 years older, was generous, there were strings attached.
‘Olivia had concealed the relationship from me and other friends, but one day she told me everything—too much, actually—and together we hatched a plan for her escape.’
In a post to his X on Monday, Mr Olbermann posted a animated GIF of Neo from the sci-fi movie The Matrix dodging bullets after sharing the article.
In a follow up on Tuesday, he added: ‘Btw about this from Lizza’s reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b’days 4 Xmases 4 anniversaries).
‘That’s like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her gift certificates from Kmart?’
It is alleged that Ms Nuzzi and Mr Kennedy began an online relationship when she was covering his 2023 presidential campaign as an independent candidate.
Mr Lizza said Mr Kennedy, the nephew of former president John F Kennedy, sent Ms Nuzzi a slew of racy messages.
One reportedly read: ‘Yr open mouth awaiting my harvest.’

Olivia Nuzzi’s alleged ‘sugar daddy’ Keith Olbermann gloats that he ‘dodged a bullet’

Ms Nuzzi has acknowledged that she had an ’emotional relationship’ with Mr Kennedy, but has denied that it impacted her coverage of his campaign.
However, she was placed on leave by New York Magazine when details of the alleged digital relationship emerged.
Mr Kennedy, who is married, has denied that any relationship took place.
Meanwhile, it was in a Substack post last week, that Mr Lizza alleged that Ms Nuzzi had cheated on him years earlier with Mr Sanford, 65.
He said that he discovered Ms Nuzzi’s alleged relationship with Mr Sanford when a love note she wrote for him fell out of her bag.
‘If I swallowed every drop of water from the tower above your house, I would still thirst for you,’ she allegedly wrote for Mr Sanford.
Mr Sanford captured national headlines in 2009 after he admitted to an extramarital affair, and finished his term in 2011 despite the scandal.
He then launched a longshot bid for the presidency in 2020, and although he never gained traction and dropped out of the race within two months, Ms Nuzzi profiled him for a New York Magazine feature story.
On her way back from a trip to interview Mr Sanford, Mr Lizza recalled discovering the note she had written to Mr Sanford after it had scattered from her backpack.
After looking through further pages, Mr Lizza said: ‘My heart stopped when I realized who he was.’
Mr Lizza, a former Washington correspondent for Politico, describes feeling devastated over ‘Olivia’s betrayal’ and worried that it would ruin a book the pair were writing together about the 2020 presidential campaign.

RFK’s cringeworthy six-word love message to star journalist revealed

He wrote that Ms Nuzzi told him she became ‘infatuated’ with Mr Sanford after covering him for New York Magazine, eventually sending him ‘increasingly risqué pictures and texts’ and even ‘secretly followed him on the campaign trail.’
He then alleges that Ms Nuzzi and Mr Sanford ‘consummated’ their relationship at the ex-governor’s home ‘one night after she went dark on me and made up a story about how she was dealing with a crisis concerning her sick mother.’
Mr Sanford has not commented on the recent allegations.
Ms Nuzzi now works for Vanity Fair after she left New York Magazine in October last year.
Mr Kennedy has denied having a relationship with the journalist and he has been married to actress Cheryl Hines for more than ten years.
His spokesperson said he only met Ms Nuzzi ‘once in his life’ for an interview that she had requested.
Mr Lizza, however, has said that some of the messages were too ‘explicit to print’ due to the sexual acts the pair were writing about.
One text allegedly said: ‘I am a river. You are my canyon, I mean to flow through you. I mean to subdue and tame you. My Love.’
Mr Lizza said he published the poetry to counter a ‘campaign of misinformation’ by his former fiancée.
He added that Mr Kennedy was as ‘one of the most consequential policymakers in America’.
The Daily Mail has contacted Olivia Nuzzi’s representatives for comment.
