Gabbi Tuft, WWE’s first transgender star, has opened up about her transition to become a woman.

San Francisco- born Gabbi, 44, transitioned two years ago after her years-long professional wrestling job fighting as dreadlocked gladiator Tyler Reks.

Before her transition, the WWE icon weighed 280 pounds, and had 6 per cent body fat.

Writing in Insider, Tuft has since revealed: ‘It took a lot of trial and error to get the feminine body I always wanted.’

Diet and exercise were essential for Tuft, who now lives in Austin, Texas, to evolve into a feminine physique.

Tuft’s professional wrestling career spanned from 2008 to 2012, boasting appearances at Smackdown, Raw and Wrestlemania.

As a WWE professional wrestler, she had built up an immense amount of muscle. Specifically, her 6-foot-2 frame weighed 280 pounds with just 6 per cent being body fat.

She said: ‘At my peak, I looked like a cross between Ragnar Lothbrok from “Vikings” and The Mountain from “Game of Thrones.”’, which led to a string of less common obstacles during the transition.

She created a fitness company called Body Spartan with wife Priscilla after retiring, which focuses on ‘positively transform the body, mind and spirit of men and women through targeted video workouts, nutritional programs and motivational sessions.’

But back in 2021, she made headlines with her transition from male to female.

Previously, she admitted that when she was younger, she would play dress up in her mother’s clothes when left alone.

But it was only during the pandemic that she had time to fully reflect on her identity – and therefore started to cross dress.

After years of Tuft’s body being swamped in testosterone, she decided to transition in her early forties.

While hormone therapy aided the change, to eliminate the amount of muscle mass that Tuft bore, she claimed that she made herself a ‘guinea pig’.

The wrestling star made use of her expertise in fitness and nutrition to vary eating styles and sustainable approaches to exercise.

‘I knew I could find a pathway to the fit, feminine aesthetic I was after,’ she said.

According to Tuft, her experimentation with fitness and diet took two years until she found the best-fit combination.

The fitness guru shared the news via a press release, calling Gabbi’s journey a ‘thrilling story of gender transitioning.’

‘Gabbi is about to share her thrilling story of gender transitioning from a former WWE Superstar, Body Builder, Fitness Guru, Motivational Speaker and Motorcycle Racer to a fun loving and fabulous female,’ the release read.

‘She has been finally set free and ready to rule her world.’

The release continued, saying: ‘Despite his successes during and after his WWE career, Gabe was still wrestling with a secret persona dwelling deep within him. This is a persona he has been hiding in the loud silence of his soul since childhood.

‘Finally, with the blessing of his loving wife Priscilla, Gabe is ready to reveal who he really is.

Tuft has since shed 190 pounds, but urges others to recognise the 'evolutionary process, one that is not only physical and nutritional but also mental and emotional'.

‘”He” is now known as “She”: A beautiful, wise, witty and wonderful woman called “Gabbi.”

‘This is a story that wrestling and other sports fans, friends and followers must not miss, especially many in the LGBTQ community dealing with challenging transgender issues, who Gabbi and [wife] Priscilla are willing to help.’

She admits that every transition journey is ‘unique’, however, hers revealed a specific focus on ‘evolving strength- inside and out.’

The journey was not easy, a period that she previously referred to as an ‘ugly-duckling phase’.

At times she felt dismayed from the process, specifically when her physical body image contrasted that in her head.

But serving as an inspiration and motivation for transgender people served as her motivation.
