Princess Margaret’s daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto looked regal as she attended the third day of the Royal Ascot in a bold indigo blue ensemble today.

Sarah, who is famed for her sweet, unassuming nature, appeared in a sophisticated dress at the races in Berkshire today.

Sarah, 60, a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth, was the only daughter of the glamorous Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, and is the half sister to David Armstrong-Jones.

Sarah wore a high-necked blue dress with short sleeves in a dark blue shade, accessorising the ensemble with a large sun hat of the same colour.

She appeared make-up free for the event, wearing subtle jewellery such as a silver chain bracelet and small earrings that appeared to be in the shape of a snowflake.

The royal, who is married to the artist, Daniel Chatto, is one of the more low-key members of the Royal Family.

Sarah and Daniel share two children, Samuel Chatto, 27, and Arthur Chatto, 25, who currently serves as a marine  – both have a long list of Instagram followers after being named as some of the royals best looking youngsters.

Sarah is not a working royal but is regularly seen at family events.

Lady Sarah Chatto was born in 1964 — the last royal baby born at a palace rather than a hospital — within weeks of cousins Prince Edward, Lady Helen Windsor and James Ogilvy.

The late Queen was said to be a ‘surrogate mother’ to Margaret’s children and was particularly close to Lady Sarah, who is understood to have reminded Her Majesty of her late sister.

One royal insider previously revealed: ‘The Queen adores Sarah and seeks out her company as often as possible. She is her absolute favourite younger Royal.

‘They are hugely at ease in each other’s company. Much giggling can be heard when they are together. They share a sense of loyalty, fun, duty and the ridiculous.’

Sarah is said to have also shared a close bond with Princess Diana, with whom she was already friendly before her engagement to Charles.

The two were just three years apart in age.

Sarah even appeared as chief bridesmaid at the wedding of Diana and Charles in 1981.

Sarah’s father doted on her and it is from him she is said to have inherited her ‘immense charm’.

An acquaintance once described Sarah as: ‘is very unassuming; shy and almost embarrassed with no grandeur at all. Take royal events — she’ll be on the balcony, but she never pushes herself to the middle or the front, like some.’
