When a woman found a live scorpion in her shopping parcel, many hoped it was nothing more than a ghastly Halloween nightmare gone wrong.

But sadly it was a reality University of Bristol student, Sofia Alonso-Mossinger, 18, who got way more than she bargained for when she opened her Shein parcel.

Along with a stylish pair of new boots, she was greeted with the unwelcome bonus of a menacing scorpion – and since then Shein shoppers have vowed not to meet the same fate.

All over the world, people have filmed themselves cautiously unboxing the fast fashion retailer’s items. From smacking them around to stomping on them, it appears people aren’t taking any chances.

Over in the US, Michelle and her young daughter Alyssa took to TikTok to reveal the contents of their Shein haul.

Set to the tune of TikTok’s trending sound, 1995’s ‘I’m Just a Girl’ by Gwen Stefani’s group No Doubt, a caption read: ‘The way we open our Shein order now – making sure there’s no scorpions inside’.

The mother-of-two and the adorable youngster – a leukaemia survivor – could be seen kneeling down in their living room with a large white package spread out before them.

Alyssa then began smacking at the parcel while her mother hilariously hit it with a big spatula. After a while the pair, looking very anxious, opened it to examine the individual packets one by one.

While Michelle gripped each package tightly, Alyssa whacked them with the spatula to ensure there were no nasty surprises lurking inside.

Thankfully, it was a successful haul and free of any scary animals.

The fever has also hit Brits, including content creator, Alessia, who took drastic measures to avoid a scorpion’s sting.

The mother-of-four and breast cancer survivor regularly treats her TikTok followers to Asda and B&M hauls, but this post came with a shocking twist.

‘I’m just a girl looking for a scorpion in my Shein parcel’ she wrote.

In a short snippet posted to her page, Alessia donned a pair of thick, yellow, rubber gloves which she used to carefully prod at the parcel.

Feeling confident there were no menacing critters inside, she tore into it and emptied its contents into a bathtub.

Luckily for Alessia, the parcel contained clothes and nothing more. Her method has so far received over 12 million views.

Also in the UK, 24-year-old Sydney enlisted help to open her Shein haul.

Sydney, who recently enjoyed a getaway to Tenerife, posted a video on TikTok with the words: ‘POV: You’re scared to open your Shein parcel after the scorpion scandal’.

Throughout the video, Sydney was visibly fearful, so much so, she covered her mouth with a hand, perhaps to cope with her anxiety.

Her and a lad named Zak opened up the Shein package on camera. They then picked up each individually-wrapped item and shook them vigorously.

After finally getting through the haul, Sydney let out a big sigh of relief before nearly collapsing on a table.

Back in the US, ‘cool mum’ Aisha Antoinette barely kept her cool when she was confronted with a box of Shein products.

In the action-packed video, the mother could be seen dressed in a leopard print onesie, gloves and rubber boots; in preparation for the courageous mission.

‘I’m ready!’ she shouted, before repeatedly high kicking the box. After that, she cut across it with a large pair of scissors, and slammed its contents to the ground.

Next, she furiously stomped on it until she was satisfied it contained no creepy crawlies. ‘No scorpions in this one’ she said, as she revealed a brand new orange jumper dress.

She employed the same tactic for the next package, however this time she stook a hammer and struck at it multiple times.

In a similar fashion, one man used a broom head to hit and prod at his Shein package.

Taking to the platform, he wrote in French: ‘j’ai un scorpion dans mon colis Shein’, which loosely translates to ‘I have a scorpion in my Shein package’.

He prepared for the brave task with a pair of pink rubber gloves, and rubber sliders.

Amongst the various clothing items items inside, no scorpions were detected.

Earlier this month, a woman was shocked to discover a dead cockroach in her Shein delivery, just days after a student found a live scorpion in her parcel from the fast fashion brand.

Amy Jowett had ordered a pair of joggers online, but when she opened the packaging the dead insect fell out.

She first thought it was a ‘big moth’ before quickly realising it was a cockroach.

Ms Jowett, from Langport, Somerset, said it was ‘gross’ and horrible’.

When opening her other parcels from Shein, she said she used ‘pincer fingers’ and gave it a ‘good shake out’ as she was ‘paranoid’ there were going to be more insects inside.

She told the BBC she thought: ‘What is going on here, I didn’t order any bugs.’

The Langport resident added: ‘It’s ridiculous that there’s just been a scorpion found and now this.’

Shein said it was in touch with Ms Jowett to resolve the issue.
