A 1930’s London Underground train carriage has been converted into a luxury glamping destination where visitors can stay for £180 per night.
Nestled within the idyllic grounds of Apple Mount Retreat, Suffolk, UK, the luxurious adults only glamping site fittingly called ‘Mind The Gap’ is a one-of-a-kind getaway that offers one bedroom and one bathroom.
The tube carriage even has its own living room, walk-in shower and galley-style kitchen.
This 1938 carriage is the only private, converted London tube carriage in the world, which means you will literally be staying in a unique piece of British history.
It spent its first 50 years serving the people of London on the London Underground, the little tube carriage then retired and spent the next 20 years on the Isle of Wight as a passenger train.

The carriage was lovingly restored in 2023 by its owners into a holiday rental, which means you’ll find a blend of British heritage with Scandi design to create a luxurious ‘tiny home’ experience with all the mod-cons, including a galley-style kitchen with banquette-style seating, a living room with a TV and a walk-in shower.
Despite its stunning restoration, the space is still reminiscent of a London underground tube carriage, and everything you would expect it to be, inside you’d find an entry cabin, which used to be the driver’s cabin, followed by an open, 55 foot and 7.5 feet wide carriage with three seating compartments.
Another great addition to the stay is the use of a Nordic style hot tub that you can use for an additional £40 fee. The owners would set it up, and also provide a new set of towels for it.

‘Just a short distance away from Britain’s best preserved mediaeval village, Lavenham, Mind The Gap is perfectly situated for nature lovers and foodies alike’, reads the listing.
‘Spend your mornings sipping a coffee on the carriage deck, surrounded by nature (including roaming peacocks!), and your evenings at one of the many top-rated local pubs, bars and restaurants.
‘During the day, you can avail of all that Apple Mount Retreat has to offer, including a tennis court, heated pool (only open May through September) and bike hire. And if you’re in the mood for some pampering, why not book a massage on the property or enjoy your private hot tub under the stars.’
