  • Brits have developed a reputation in other countries for our bad behaviour
  • MailOnline has compiled a round-up of the worst examples of Brits abroad

Of all the travellers in the world, British tourists don’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to being guests in other people’s countries.

In fact, we as a nation have a pretty bad reputation abroad for being rowdy and loud guests.

Whether it’s getting their kit off or terrorising annoyed locals and fellow holidaymakers, it’s almost a rite of passage for a British tourist to make a fool of themselves while on holiday.

Our antics abroad have become so bad that many cities across the world are actively telling us to stay away.

In March, Amsterdam became the latest holiday hotspot to warn British tourists away from its red-light districts, coffee shops and bars.

That same month, Lanzarote’s president María Dolores Corujo suggested that the holiday hotspot starting working to lose its dependence on British tourists and bring in ‘higher quality tourists.’

MailOnline has dug through the archives to put together a round-up of the worst behaviour exhibited by Brits abroad.

This rowdy Brit was seen throwing up peace signs as he posed naked for a photoshoot in a war memorial fountain in Rome.

He was joined by his pal, and the two men frolicked in the water at the foot of Altare della Patria in the Italian capital.

Others filmed as the men laughed and jokingly flexed their muscles in front of bemused tourists.

Italian cops hunted the pair down, who were captured on camera by a tour guide at the landmark – a monument to war dead that was originally built in honour of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy.

One man was caught on film telling worried passengers that their flight to Manchester was delayed by six hours

One British prankster was filmed jumping on the airport-wide microphone at Zakynthos Airport in Greece and telling his fellow passengers that the flight to Manchester was delayed by six hours.

His announcement raised some confusion, as there was no flight from the Greek airport to Manchester scheduled on the day.

The unnamed Brit was seen being escorted by the airport’s security after making the false announcements.

He was reportedly not allowed on his flight back home.

This Newcastle fan made a splash in Milan when he jumped into a canal in the city and took on a local rowing team.

The over-confident fan left the rowers stunned as he divebombed into the Naviglio Grande and attempted to swim alongside them.

Delighted fans egged him on as he stripped down to his boxers to cool off in the canal, which was lined with Newcastle and England flags as supporters built up to the game.

Despite his bravado and enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, the bold swimmer only managed a few strokes before he was outpaced by the boat.

As the rowing boat disappears into the distance, clearly winning the competition, boos erupt as the man slowed down to a dejected paddle.

Malaga cops and firefighters were forcedto partially dismantle the container to get this drunk Brit out

This drunk Brit managed to find himself stuck in the narrow opening of an underground waste container in Malaga while on a night out.

One of his friends can be heard shouting ‘Tiggy, give me your hand’ and counting ‘one, two, three’ before yanking his arm upwards.

Another joins in by telling him ‘Bring your knees up’ as bemused locals offer advice in broken English on the best way to get him out and the top of the hemmed-in holidaymaker’s head appears.

The bizarre drama at a central Malaga square ended with police, firefighters and workers from maintenance service firm Limasa being mobilised and having to dismantle part of the container so they could get him out following the failure of the amateur rescue attempt.

A drunk British tourist decided that going for an early morning swim off the coast of Thailand

This tourist was spotted clinging to a buoy two miles off the coast of Thailand flagged down a boat after he thought it would be a ‘good idea’ to go for a morning swim.

The seemingly intoxicated holidaymaker was seen standing on the yellow float in his swimming shorts near the party city of Pattaya at around 7am.

He was seen smiling and did not seem to be in distress as he raised his thumb and waved at the passing boat in an effort to catch a ride.

A friendly local man found him and helped him onto his boat, and the unnamed Brit can be seen staggering on the deck while trying to catch his breath.

The Briton, who appeared unsteady on his feet, told the captain of the boat: ‘I wake up, I go “oh good idea for a swim”.’

A drunk tourist allegedly took this coach for a high-speed joyride across Benidorm, smashing into cars and motorbikes along his two-mile spree.

The unnamed 27-year-old Brit is understood to have made it into a room where the key to the coach was kept before making off with the huge vehicle.

One local said at the time: ‘It was lucky there were few people around at that time of the night otherwise things could have turned out a lot worse.

‘A lot of cars and motorbikes have been damaged but no-one fortunately has been hurt that I know of.’

This group of 20 British tourists stripped off for a daytime skinny-dip before jogging back to their hotel in Palma Nova in Magaluf.

Some covered up their privates with one hand but others left themselves exposed to passers-by – including a young boy.

Only one of the Brits appeared to be dressed, with a couple of those that did have at least something on limiting their attire to just hats and sunglasses.

In a clip of the incident, a Spanish local watching the outrageous scene could be overheard shouting ‘Mira, mira’ – Spanish for ‘Look, look’ – as a second man appeared out of nowhere to stop cars while the men ran across a road at the back of the promenade.

The Toon Army set up their own human bowling alley in the middle of Milan

A handful of Newcastle fans were seen being bowled over by a fellow Brit after they set up a human bowling alley in the middle of Milan.

The group cleared a smooth part of the thoroughfare and put out plastic cups before launching themselves like a human bowling ball.

One man took a few people out as he flew towards the crowd, leaving members of the Toon Army in hysterics.

Despite this, some locals described their antics as ‘cringe.’
