A woman who lost more than 60 pounds after she quit yo-yo dieting has revealed three easy things to do if you want to lose weight but have ‘zero clue’ how to start.

Maddie Kossin, a fitness coach and nutritionist, has more than 272,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares her ‘no BS’ approach to fat loss.

The 25-year-old struggled with body image and her relationship with food for close to a decade before she started her weight loss journey almost seven years ago.

After giving up on fad diets and focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes, the 5-foot-1 trainer went from nearly 200 pounds to 134 pounds with just 24 per cent body fat.

Kossin dedicated one of her videos to ‘easy weight loss tips’ for people who were ‘starting from scratch,’ saying this was where she would start if she was a beginner.

In it for the long haul: Maddie Kossin’s three ‘easy’ weight loss tips

  1. Get a water bottle and carry it with you everywhere you go
  2. Walk for 20 minutes a day
  3. Write down your weight loss goal in the present tense as if you had already experienced it

‘These things are so easy to do, so you cannot make an excuse this time,’ she said.

Kossin’s first piece of advice was to ‘get a cute water bottle’ and take it with you wherever you go.

‘Drink it before you eat. Drink it after you eat. Drink it in between meals. Just carry something like this with you and get used to picking it up and drinking it,’ she said.

‘This is not hard to do. Don’t make an excuse for this.’

Her second tip was to ‘intentionally walk for 20 minutes every single day.’

‘You could do this at your house. You could do this at Target. You could do this outside. You could literally do this anywhere,’ she insisted.

Kossin noted that you could also break up the 20 minutes any way you saw fit, saying you could walk for four minutes five times or 10 minutes two times. It’s up to you.

The fitness coach said her third and final recommendation was the ‘most important.’

‘Write down your current weight loss goal in the present tense as if you had already experienced it,’ she advised.

‘So if your goal is to lose 30 pounds, write, “I am so grateful that I lost 30 pounds, and I feel amazing in my skin.”

‘If you do these three things every single day, watch how your life changes, especially in your mindset,’ she concluded.

The 57-second video has received nearly 300 comments, and many fans thanked her for her no-excuse approach to getting started.

‘Watching TikTok with 20 mins to kill so now I’m walking instead of sitting… thank you,’ one person wrote.

‘Coming back to say I’m doing this and the fact that you said I couldn’t make an excuse was the motivation I needed,’ another added.

Earlier this year, Kossin revealed on Instagram that she was down to 134 pounds, her lowest weight since she started her transformation.

She shared before and after photos of herself, writing, ‘I sometimes still can’t believe I ever lost the weight. There was a time I was convinced I was stuck and genetically screwed for life.

Kossin shared that the number-one question that people asked her was how long it took her to lose the weight.

‘There are six years between these pictures,’ she explained. ‘Six years of imperfect consistency, body recomposition, muscle building, diet breaks, and fun. I was probably only in a calorie deficit for one out of these six years all together.

‘What I know for sure is if you’re focusing on speed instead of direction, you will never lose weight and keep it off. I did that for years and years before.

‘If you don’t intentionally go into a routine with a lifestyle and a forever mindset, you’re going to struggle.’

Kossin noted that she ‘tried it all,’ including keto, Weight Watchers, and Atkins.

‘The only thing that worked for me? Lifestyle changes that I can keep up with,’ she said.

‘You can’t just go to the gym until you reach your goal. You can’t just eat healthier foods until you reach your goal. This is forever and that’s what most people don’t want to hear.

‘Weight loss is hard. Lifestyle change is hard. Getting out of the habit of getting a McFlurry every time I had a bad day was hard.

‘But waking up in the morning KNOWING I was doing my health a disservice by not moving my body and not fueling it with nutrient-dense foods… that was way harder.

‘Choose your hard.’
