A British holidaymaker who plunged to his death from a Costa del Sol hotel earlier this week has been named as a telecommunications worker grieving the loss of his baby daughter from sudden infant death syndrome.

Robert Davidson, 37, had travelled to Torremolinos on a family holiday with fiancé Daniella Robb, 27.

She was asleep with her two children aged eight and nine when he plunged from the balcony of their sixth-floor room at the four-star Sandos Griego Hotel just before midnight on Tuesday.

The tragedy occurred hours before the one-year anniversary of the death of the couple’s daughter Hollie, who had passed away aged just seven weeks from SIDS.

University of the West of Scotland-educated Daniella, who earlier this week launched a GoFundMe appeal to help repatriate Robert’s body, said in a message alongside the fundraiser which has already raised nearly £10,000: ‘I’m trying to raise money for the repatriation of my amazing, perfect, very much loved partner Robert.

‘On the 4th of February 2025 Robert and myself lost our beautiful perfect princess Hollie Davidson at only seven weeks and we have both been struggling so much since.

‘As the first anniversary of the loss of our daughter was approaching we wanted to get away to take even the smallest amount of pressure off. As a family we booked a break away to Torremolinos, myself Robert and the two kids.

‘On the evening of the 3rd of February 2026 Robert very tragically took his life after a long struggle and battling every day with his mental health due to the loss of his daughter.

‘I would greatly appreciate any help no matter how small the donation. To try and get the love of my life home and give him the send off he deserves. I’ll love you forever Robert.’

‘In an anguished separate social media message posted yesterday, Daniella added: ‘I hope you’ll always know how much I love you Robert.

‘I’m so lost without you and miss you more than words can describe.

‘My heart is screaming for you and I feel like my insides have been ripped from me all over again. I know there was nothing I could have done to fix how you felt, but I just hope you’re at peace with our princess and when you left me,that you left knowing how deeply I loved you.

‘Forever and always my handsome amazing man.’

She described Robert in an earlier post three days after his death as ‘my best friend, love of my life, my everything’, adding ‘It will always be you Robert, forever and always. I need you, miss you and love you so much.’

Although initial reports pointed to the hotel balcony plunge happening in the early hours of Wednesday, one well-placed source later said the first 999 call had been received around 11.15pm on Tuesday.

The insider said: ‘A female hotel worker was the person that phoned the emergency services.’

Police sources said in the aftermath of the incident it was being investigated as a possible accident.

The hotel where the tourist died, part of a group called Sandos Hotels & Resorts, declined to comment after the tragedy.
