This is the heart-stopping moment a cyclist is hurled into the air when they are hit head-on by a car driving on the wrong side of the road.

An impatient driver was caught on CCTV driving into the wrong lane while trying to overtake a stationary car at a set of lights.

The horrifying incident happened at around 7.40pm on Thursday, August 31, in Shear Brow, at the Four Lane Ends junction, Blackburn.

As the silver Seat pulled out into the right lane, a cyclist riding a bright blue bicycle, collided head-on with the vehicle and was flung off his bike into the air.

The rider was lying motionless for a few moments before he rolled onto his side when drivers rushed to his aid.

The cyclist, who was in a man in his 30s, was rushed to hospital with multiple bone fractures.

The Seat was pictured parked on a nearby street with a hole in the shattered windscreen and several dents on the bonnet.

The photograph showed the registration plates ripped off the car as it was left outside a home on the junction.
