  • The body of Gabriela Kosilko was found in woodland on September 7, police said
  • Sebastian Zarnoch was being quizzed over her murder when he was found dead

A 26-year-old beautician was abducted and murdered by her jealous ex-boyfriend who had travelled to the UK to confront her before he killed himself while being quizzed in police custody over disappearance.

Eyebrow technician Gabriela Kosilko was snatched a day after her former partner Sebastian Zarnoch flew to the UK from his native Poland.

Zarnoch, 30, then is believed to have killed himself in a police cell after initially being arrested over Ms Kosilko’s kidnap – before her body was found.

The aunt of ‘bubbly’ and ‘forever smiling’ beautician Ms Kosilko tonight told MailOnline that her niece, known as Gaby, had split up with Sebastian a year ago, and he had returned to Poland.

Mum-of-one Magdalena Bolesta said: ‘This man killed my niece and then has seemingly taken his own life has taken the coward’s way out. He should have faced justice over his horrific alleged crime.’

Ms Kosilko, who should have been celebrating her 27th birthday in six days, was reported missing on September 1 after failing to come home from work the previous evening.

She was last seen in a Tesco Express in Fosse Road North, Leicester, at 11.30pm on August 31 and her red Audi A1 was discovered four miles away the following morning.

Ms Bolesta said: ‘I understand it was Gaby’s decision and he was not very happy. Recently she had become close friends with another man.

‘We found out he had flown to Britain on Wednesday, a day before Gaby had disappeared, but she had not even expecting him. Two people have now died needlessly.’

Yesterday officers revealed they had found remains and believed them to be Ms Kosilko’s, though her mother is said to be flying to the UK from Poland on Tuesday to formally identify her.

Friends of tragic Gabriele, 26, have told of their shock and horror following her death days after she was reported missing.

One said: ‘This is horrible news. Gaby was a lovely, friendly person who lived for her job and her little dog, and would never do anything to offend anyone.

‘Her family live in her native Poland and some members are coming over to the UK. They are devastated.’

Another said: ‘Everyone who knows her is very shocked. She has been living here for several years and had a lot of friends, mainly Polish.’

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team, today said: ‘We continue to investigate the full circumstances surround Gabriela’s death so please get in touch if you have any information that could assist.

‘We are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death and as such the investigation file will be submitted to the coroner to be heard as part of the inquest.’

As Zarnoch died while in police custody, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who have begun an independent investigation. The force will fully cooperate with this investigation.

Yesterday, a spokesman for the IOPC said: ‘We have started an independent investigation following the death yesterday (Wednesday 6 September) of a man who was in police custody in Leicester.

‘We understand the man, believed to be aged 30, was initially arrested by Leicestershire Police on Monday (4 September) on suspicion of kidnap and taken to Keyham Lane police station. We have been told that at around 10am yesterday the man was found unresponsive in his cell and death was pronounced there a short time later.

‘After we were notified by Leicestershire Police we sent investigators to the police station and the police post incident procedure to begin gathering evidence including custody footage and some initial accounts from officers and staff. We declared an independent investigation shortly before 12.30pm.’

DCI Sinski from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team, said: ‘Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Gabriela’s death continue and anyone who may have any information is asked to get in touch.

‘If you were driving along Newtown Linford Lane around 2.20pm on Friday (1 September) please check your dashcam footage and get in touch if you captured a red Audi A1 parked on the side of the road or saw anyone driving it or sitting in the vehicle.

‘Equally, if you were in the Ratby Lane area during Friday afternoon please get in touch if you saw the vehicle or anything which seemed unusual or caused you concern.

‘We would also like to reassure the local community who have been affected by the events of the last few days that officers will remain in the area while further enquiries are conducted.’

Anyone who can assist with enquiries is asked to contact 101, quoting incident 484 of September 1 or alternatively use Public Portal (mipp.police.uk).
