A stunning image of a snow-capped volcano has scooped the top prize in a panoramic photography competition.

Spanish photographer Daniel Viñé Garcia received the Open Aerial accolade for his impressive picture of the Parinacota Volcano in Chile, which rises more than 6,300m.

The image, named The Sleeping Giant, is an aerial panorama made from 33 individual exposures.

This year’s 17th International Pano Awards drew 4,084 entries from 93 countries, including 680 in its new Aerial categories.

Other winners included Mikel Iraeta, from Spain, who took the Open Nature and Landscape category with Double arch on Milford Sound – a striking image of the Milky Way in New Zealand.

And Xuecheng Liu, from the United States, won the Open Built Environment with a futuristic 25-frame aerial panorama of Times Square.

Xuejun Long, from China, won Amateur Aerial with Journey of Life, photographed at Lake Magadi in Kenya, while Tomás Sánchez Ruiz was named Amateur Photographer of the Year.

The Epson International Pano Awards is the world’s largest competition dedicated to panoramic photography.
