A modest beach hut with no running water or electricity is on the market for £100,000.

The 9ft by 7ft timber cabin has a prime ‘front row’ location at idyllic Friars Cliff Beach in Christchurch, Dorset.

It offers an interrupted vista of south coast beauty spot Hengistbury Head and the Isle of Wight.

The hut is for daytime use only and cannot be slept in overnight, unlike the luxury cabins at nearby Mudeford which sell for £400,000.

The new owners will have to use a communal toilet block further along the prom.

On top of the six-figure asking price, they will also have to pay the standard annual licence fee of £1,249.24.

The huge asking price is said to reflect Britain’s booming beach hut market which has taken off ever since Covid.

Estate agents Spencers Coastal say in their brochure: ‘A unique chance presents itself to purchase a beach hut situated on the front row at Friars Cliff Beach.

‘This sought-after location offers convenient access to a nearby cafe, parking and toilets.

‘From the beach hut you can enjoy expansive views stretching towards the Isle of Wight across Hengistbury Head.

‘It is a special opportunity to own a beachside retreat in this very desirable spot.’

George Jones, agent at Spencers Coastal, added: ‘The price is all about its desirable location and front row position.

‘The beach hut market is booming with prices soaring in the past decade, especially after Covid.

‘There have been offers already and we expect it will go soon.’

The Covid pandemic saw demand surge to a new high as the inability to travel abroad meant people were prepared to pay a premium for staycations – but things do not seem to have eased off since.

In nearby Mudeford, Dorset, beach huts can go for a whopping £2.1 million, making them Britain’s most expensive cabins.

The timber cabins, which sit on the remote and exclusive Mudeford Spit in Christchurch, Dorset, are worth more than the price of a four-bedroom house in many parts of the country.

Tim Baber, a local resident and former hut owner, said the huge prices are worth it. He said: ‘The new owners are buying in to a family friendly place – there hasn’t been an arrest there for years whereas there are arrests at Bournemouth beach every year.

‘The rates are really high – £4,500 and increasing – but there are people that will pay them.

‘I sold mine in 2005 for £120,000, when we thought prices couldn’t possibly go any higher and now they’re up to £400,000, which is absolutely bonkers.

‘The thing is it is worth it. The memories you make there will last all your life.’
