Sneaky moment fan removes medal from Colombian soccer player's neck as he celebrated winning championship

An overly jubilant fan ruined the celebratory mood after his favorite team Atlético Bucaramanga’s Colombian Primera A league championship by nabbing a player’s medal.

Footage shows Atlético Bucaramanga defender Carlos Henao surrounded by supporters on Sunday at Américo Montanini Stadium, one night after the team had won its first title in the team’s 75-year history.

A fan identified as Juan Luna approaches Henao to congratulate him and then steps away. He waits a few seconds while other fans join in to pose for pictures and takes advantage that Henao is about to do an interview with Win Sports and allegedly unclips the ribbon from behind Henao’s back.

Henao subsequently notices that the medal is missing and looks down at the ground while Luna allegedly places it in his pocket.

Luna boldly enough posed with the medal in a photo that was shared on social media at the same time the video went viral.

His mother, Carmenza Rodríguez, a longtime Bucaramanga fan, was embarrassed by his alleged actions and alerted the police three hours after the incident.

She recovered the medal, which was presented by mayor’s office to the winning club and turned it over to local authorities early Monday.

Luna, who was arrested, took to Facebook to post a defiant message, claiming he had not committed a crime.

‘Steal? I work day by day and get after it everywhere,’ he wrote.

‘Thank God I have even helped a little or a lot of people, that’s why I am doing well in life. Anyone who knows me knows.

‘The apologies are for my friends, my (team) supporter group, my club and my family.’

The medal was returned to Henao, who compared Luna to Judas, in an interview with Blu Radio.

‘First, telling me that I was the best and then he took the medal from me,’ Henao said.

‘I realized it when I lost the weight in my chest. He was out of nowhere and very fast. So, then it was like wait until you have it in your hands again.

Luna’s fan club Southern Leopard Fortress has since released a statement condemning his alleged behavior.

‘Our fan club is not and will never be complicit in this type of actions,’ it said. ‘The person who committed said action personally AND DOES NOT REPRESENT the values ​​and virtues of our collective.’
