Why I think Meghan Markle's latest so-called fashion faux pas is her chicest look yet – and the easiest trend to copy this summer

There are few looks that divide opinion in the fashion world quite like double denim.

But Meghan Markle showed exactly how to wear it in her latest Instagram post.

Posing in a coordinating light blue denim shirt and jeans by Tracy James, a Montecito-based brand founded by her friend Tracy Robbins, the Duchess proved the often-debated trend can look effortlessly chic.

‘Springing into summer,’ she captioned the post – and her relaxed ensemble is perfectly suited to balmy days, while remaining versatile enough to see you through to autumn.

Often referred to as the ‘Canadian tuxedo’, double denim has enjoyed a major revival in recent years.

While the look is still associated by some with the early 2000s and criticised for appearing overly matchy or one-dimensional, it has since been embraced by fashion insiders as the epitome of laid-back luxury.

The key to Meghan’s look lies in proportion and finish. She wore the brand’s Sunday Shirtigan, a cropped chambray denim style that can be worn tucked in or loose, paired with the Upper Village Jeans, which feature a high waist and wide cuffed leg to balance the silhouette.

The jeans are beautifully detailed with the label’s signature heart-shaped back pockets, embroidered with the Tracy James logo.

Together, the pieces create a coordinated yet considered silhouette that feels intentional rather than overly styled.

For those hoping to recreate the Duchess’ look, Meghan’s exact outfit is still available to shop.

I’ve also rounded up the best double-denim alternatives from the high street below. To wear it well, keep accessories understated – think a slouchy bag and flat sandals or ballet pumps for a grounded finish.
